Airframe and Controls
(1) A small lacon containing BBMF FAPs is secured on the port
side of the aircraft between the cover of the flap jack ram and the
rear spar.
(2) A ground servicing set of ladders (for land-aways) is secured
to the port fuselage frames, aft of the rest bunk.
(3) Aircraft spares are carried in the rear turret ammunition
cases under and to either side of the mid upper turret.
(4) Chocks for the Lancaster and Fighters are stowed on the
starboard side of the fuselage, aft of the bomb bay bulkhead.
Wheel and canopy covers are also stowed in this location.
(5) Fuel and oil dipsticks are stowed just aft of the entrance
door.
(6) Lightweight cleaning materials are stowed in the out-of-use
Elsan.
Mainplane
7. The mainplane is of the two spar type. The skin covering is of alloy
sheet with the exception of the ailerons that are fabric covered. The
mainplane consists of two outer planes, two wing tip sections and a
centre section which is integral with the fuselage. The leading and trailing
edges, ailerons and flaps are easily detached. The leading edge is
reinforced for balloon barrage protection and is fitted with cable cutters.
The ailerons are fitted with trim and balance tabs, the trim tab being
positioned innermost.
Tail Unit
8. The tail unit consists of the port and starboard tailplanes to which are
attached the fins, rudders and elevators. The tailplane is covered with
alloy skin panels.
9.
Fins.
The fins are attached to the outer ends of the tailplanes and
are covered with a light alloy skin.
