Changeover Switch
11. A V/UHF - UPPER/LOWER aerial changeover switch is on the
Navigator’s panel.
MODE S TRANSPONDER
General
12. The aircraft is fitted with a Becker 6400 Series Mode S Transponder
with a height-encoding facility. The Control Unit (Fig 5) is mounted
alongside the V/UHF Radio Control Unit on the Navigator’s table. The
Transponder is switched to SBY after start and to ALT before take-off.
Squawk and height readout are indicated on the LCD screen. Provision
is made for simple selection of the VFR code and subsequent return
to a previously-selected squawk. Pressing the IDT button activates
an additional 18 second pulse which enables the aircraft to be clearly
identified by a radar controller. ID appears on the left side of the LCD
during transmission of this pulse. Code selection is made by use of
a dual-action rotary/press button on the lower right of the control unit.
Functions of Controls and Indicators are show in Table 3. The transponder
should be switched off before engine shutdown.
