Installing Hard Drives
2.6.1
Installing Hard Drive Prerequisites
Hard drives are separately purchased and please consider the following when
purchasing hard drives:
Capacity (MB/GB):
RAID arrays use a “least-common-denominator” approach,
meaning the maximum capacity used in each drive to compose a RAID array is the
maximum capacity of the smallest drive. Therefore it is recommended to use large
storage capacity hard drives with the same storage capacity (preferably 2TB or 3TB).
WARNING
Hard drives manufactured by the same manufacturer, of the same model, and
claiming the same rated capacity may actually carry different block numbers resulting
in storage capacity discrepancies. When configuring disk drives into a RAID array,
you may use a slightly smaller capacity as the “
Maximum Disk Capacity
” in each
individual disk drive.
Drive type:
S48 series, single controller models
supports 3.5 inch 6Gbps SAS up to 2TB and
SATA-III hard drives up to 3TB.
S48 series, dual controller models
supports 3.5 inch 7200rpm or 15000rpm
6Gbps SAS hard drives up to 2TB.
WARNING
The hard drives should only be installed into the system
AFTER
the enclosure has
been rack mounted as the combined weight will be too heavy to handle.
Handle hard drives with extreme care and observe all ESD prevention methods
when installing drives.
Only use screws supplied with the system package. Longer screws may damage the
drive.
