Replacing the Drawer Fan Module
WARNING
Although the cooling modules are fully redundant, it is not advisable to run the
system with only one or two drawer fan module for more than five minutes.
There are also three drawer fans located at the end of each drawer. These cooling
modules cool the hard drives and control the operating temperature within the
chassis and therefore their working integrity should be maintained at all times.
NOTE
Should a fan fail within a fan module, the whole module must be replaced! For detail
Detecting a Failed Cooling Module
If a cooling module fails, the system notifies you through the following indicators:
Front panel LED status indicator (refer to
)
Audible alarm (refer to
)
Firmware utility (refer to Firmware User Manual in the CD-ROM)
SANWatch manager software (refer to SANWatch User Manual in the
CD-ROM for details)
Replacing the Module
The failed cooling module should be replaced as soon as possible, but only when
you have a replacement module in your hand. To replace the drawer fan module:
1. Pull the drawer out all the way towards you (you should hear a “click” sound).
2. Locate the drawer fan module towards the enclosure end.
3. Place your index finger and thumb on the latches and do the pinch motion to
release the drawer fan module from the drawer.
4. Insert the replacement module simply by inserting it into the drawer slot.
