Terminate the "ModemIni" program
Now disconnect the power to EM260.
Disconnect the parameterization cable from EM260
On the modem adapter board, push-fit the jumper "Mode" in the position "operation" r.h. position, see
photograph).
Make sure that the EM260 is connected in accordance with Section 7.2.1 to the EK280.
Make sure that a SIM card is inserted into the CSM modem.
Make sure that a GSM antenna is connected to the modem.
Close housing of EM260
Switch on the power to the EM260.
Approx. 1 minute after switching on, the GSM modem ought to have logged on in the GSM network and
should be able to communicate which is indicated by the flashing yellow LED "online" on the EM260
housing cover.
7.2.4.3 Checking GSM field strength
Before starting a data transfer via the modem, you must ensure that there is adequate reception field strength.
a) Opening the test time window on the device

The test time window only needs to be open if none of the time windows 5 to 6 is currently open.
Move the cursor to the "
Serv.
" tab in the EK280's display, then to
Interfaces > Terminal interface. > CWTst
Press the ENTER button in order to enter the length of the test time window in minutes

Move the cursor with the arrow keys

to the digits and change these with the arrow keys

to 10, for example.
After the desired digits have been changed, press the ENTER button in order to confirm the input. It
is possible to abort the entry by pressing the ESC button.
b) Display GSM field strength
Move the cursor to the "
Serv.
" tab in the EK280's display, then to
Interfaces > Terminal interface > GSM & GPRS > GSM.L
With the cursor over
GSM.L
, please press the EK280
ENTER
button and wait for approximately 30
seconds.
The percentage field strength is now displayed under
GSM.L
.

With a field strength below 50% data transfer issues may be encountered. You can remedy this in
the majority of cases with an external antenna, mounted somewhere suitable.
