3-14 ChannelWorks Network Installer’s Guide
Modifying And Loading The ChannelWorks Bridge Parameters
Note:
This procedure assumes that you have performed the procedures in the “Installing The
LANcity Subscriber Utility on A PC” section and the procedures in the “Connecting A
PC to The ChannelWorks Bridge Serial Port” section.
When the utility starts up, it loads its own parameter fields with default values. This
operation does not affect the ChannelWorks Bridge attached to the PC. Also these val-
ues do not reflect the actual state of the bridge.
You can change these fields and cause them to be loaded into the bridge without having
first read the bridge’s NVRAM. However, to avoid confusion you should read the
bridge’s NVRAM before making any changes. Once you program a bridge, you can
save the parameter settings to a file, and on subsequent visits, read those parameters in
from the file rather than reading the bridge’s NVRAM, in order to save time.
Note:
The LCS Utility can save all the bridge’s operating parameters except for the Unique IP
Addresses. This function prevents the user from adding duplicate IP Addresses on a
network.
If working from the default values assigned by the utility is convenient for you, skip to
the next paragraph. Otherwise:
•
To read the contents of NVRAM, refer to the “Reading The ChannelWorks Bridge
Parameters” section.
•
To read parameter values that were previously saved to a file, use the “Open File”
command, located in the File pull down menu.
Modify parameter values as follows:
1.
Click on Parameter. The utility displays the Parameter Pull Down Menu as shown
in Figure 3-9.
2.
Click on the parameter group you wish to modify. The Utility displays the selected
parameter group items.
Note:
Your User Level determines whether the Utility displays and allows you access to the
desired parameter or blanks it and denies you access to the desired parameter. Refer to
the “User Levels” section for more information.
3.
Using the mouse, click on or highlight the parameter information you wish to
change and type in the new parameter.
