SECTION 6: CONFIGURING QUEUING APPLICATIONS
Queue wait time examples - Tail zone
In the following diagrams, the circles represent the Track Distance area.
Assume that all individuals in this example passed the counting constraints.
The first person starts inside of the queue count area and does not have a
valid wait time because tracks that start in the zone are filtered from the wait
time calculations. The second and fourth persons start outside the queue
count area, currently have valid wait times, and have not yet crossed over the
pink queue exit line. The third and fifth persons both start inside the queue
count area so the wait time is not valid (yellow). This example shows that a
method is needed to include tracks that start inside the queue count area but
still have complete tracks; otherwise, valid wait times are discarded. See the
example on the right to see how the queue tail zone is used to increase the
wait time sample size.
Assume that all individuals in this example passed the counting constraints.
The first person starts inside of the queue count area and also inside the tail
zone, then continues through the pink queue exit. Because the track started
in the tail zone, which defines a specific area in which wait times can be
calculated even if the track originates in the zone, the wait time is finalized
and written to a metric packet. The second and fourth persons start outside
the queue count area, currently have valid wait times, and did not yet cross
the pink queue exit line. The third person starts inside the queue count area
so the wait time is not valid. The last person in the queue count area started
within both the queue count and tail zones, and therefore the track has a
valid wait time; the wait time is finalized when the track crosses the pink
exit line.
6.1.9 Sample Queue zone configurations
The following samples show how queue zones are generally drawn for grocery/retail and serpentine queue environments.
