for the
appropriate IDE drive options. For instructions see Chapter 3.
Tape drives attached to a SCSI host adapter card are not part of the system setup
programs configuration information.
12. If you installed a SCSI hard-disk drive, partition and format the drive. Then install
the operating system and any necessary drivers.
For instructions, see Partitioning and Formatting SCSI Hard-Disk Drives and the
operating system documentation.
13. Test the SCSI device(s).
Test a SCSI hard-disk drive by running the
SCSI
Devices
test group of the Dell

You may need to use different programs than those provided with the operating
system to partition and format SCSI hard-disk drives. Refer to the documentation that
came with your SCSI software drivers for information on installing the appropriate
drivers and preparing the SCSI hard-disk drive for use .
For the Windows 98 operating system, all Dell-installed drives use a single partition
with the 32-bit file allocation table (FAT32) file system. If you add a SCSI host adapter
card and a SCSI hard-disk drive combination to a system that uses the Windows 98
operating system, you can use either the 16-bit file allocation table (FAT16) or the
FAT32 file system. If you use FAT32, the primary partition can use all the space on the
hard-disk drive. If you use FAT16, the primary partition can use a maximum of 2 GB
and the extended partitions can use the remainder of the disk drive. In FAT16, the
primary and extended partitions must be broken down into Logical Drives that can
use a maximum of 2 GB until the all the space on both the partitions is used.
For the Windows NT operating system, all Dell-installed drives have a 2 GB primary
partition that uses FAT16 and a secondary partition formatted with the NT File System
(NTFS). If you add a SCSI host adapter card and a SCSI hard-disk drive to a system
that uses the Windows NT operating system, you can configure the primary partition
to use FAT16 or NTFS. If you use FAT16, the primary partition can use up to 4 GB. If
you use NTFS, the primary partition can use up to 7.8 GB. To use 7.8 GB, the hard-disk
drive must be prepared on a system identical to yours before you install the Windows
NT operating system on the primary partition.
