Maintenance
8-1
8. Maintenance
8.1 Preliminary Maintenance
–
during scanner installation
On scanners:
FLEX50i, HD4230i
After setting up your new scanner and verifying your installation, it is recommended to clean your scanner
before working with it.
Packaging, shipping and transportation may have left dust particles on the scanner and in the scan area.
Wipe the glass plate and scanner feeding bed with a dry cloth to ensure a dust-free scan area.
On
HD4230i
models, shipping and transportation could have affected the cameras and it is therefore
highly recommended to
run calibration
and thus automatically test and align the cameras.
8.2 Regular Scanner Maintenance
On scanners:
FLEX50i, HD4230i
Regular scanner maintenance is a sure way to minimize costly downtime. Follow the general
recommendations:
1. Keep your scanner clean
–
the section below describes how to thoroughly clean the internal scan area
after periods of use. How often you need to clean the scanner will depend on how often and the types
of media you scan. If your work involves scanning newspapers and old blueprints you will likely need
to clean more often than users who only scan brochures and new drawings.
2. Be sure to clean the scanner when results are not optimal. Particles of dust in the scan area can be
the cause of streaks in the end result.
3. Scanner Calibration is very easy to perform and most of it is completely automatic. After manually
cleaning the scan area, you just insert a Calibration Sheet, and start the Scanner Maintenance
program. You should calibrate the scanner if your output and color precision is not optimal.
4. You must run the Scanner Maintenance program from a PC that recognizes the scanner and has
WIDEsystemNET and Scanner Maintenance software installed. See the following section on
Running
the Scanner Maintenance Program
for details.
