D o not allow the bearings to spin, turn them
slow ly by hand. Spinning bearings m ay dam age the
race and balls.
3. M ake sure bearings are clean, then lubricate with
light engine oil and check them for roughness by slow ly
turning the race by hand.
Bearing Rollers
A ll clutch gear and counter gear bearing rollers should
be inspected closely and replaced if they show wear. Inspect
counter shaft and reverse idler shaft at the sam e time,
replace if necessary. R eplace all worn washers.
Gears
1. Inspect all gears for excessive wear, chips or cracks
and replace any that are worn or damaged.
2. Inspect reverse gear bushing and if worn or dam aged
replace the entire gear. Reverse gear bushing is not serviced
separately.
3. Check both clutch sleeves to see that they slide freely
on their hubs.
Reverse Idler Gear Bushing
T he bushing used in the idler gear is pressed into the
gear and finished bored in place. This insures the positive
alignm ent o f the bushing and shaft as w ell as proper
m eshing o f the gears. Because o f the high degree o f accuracy
to which these parts are m achined, the bushing is not
serviced separately.
