c. R em ove pump to case bolt and w asher and install
278m m (11") long bolt and locking nut as shown. (Figure
7A 1-32).
d. Push turbine shaft downward.
e. Install J-25022 on J-24773 tool and secure on end o f
turbine shaft. (Figure 7A 1-32).
f. M ount dial indicator and clam p assem bly on bolt,
positioning indicator point against cap nut o f J-24773.
(Figure 7A 1-32).
g. M ove output shaft upward by turning the adjusting
screw on J-25013-5 until the w hite or scribed line on sleeve
J-25013-1 begins to disappear (Figure 7A 1-30), then set dial
indicator to zero.
h. Pull J-24773 on turbine shaft upward and read end
play. Front unit end play should be 0.56m m -1.30m m
(.022"-.051").
NOTICE:
Selective washer controlling this end play is
located between the output shaft and turbine shaft. If
more or less washer thickness is required to bring end
play within specifications, select proper washer from
the follow ing chart.

c. U sing J-24773 tool, rem ove pump assem bly, pum p
to case gasket and discard gasket. (Figure 7A 1-34).
3. Forward and D irect Clutch:
a. Grasp turbine shaft and rem ove direct and forward
clutch assem blies. (Figure 7A 1-35).
b. Lift direct clutch assem bly o ff forward clutch
assembly.
NOTICE:
T he direct-to-forward clutch thrust washer
m ay stick to the end o f the direct clutch housing when
it is removed from the forward clutch housing.
4. R em ove interm ediate band assembly. (Figure 7A 1-
36).
5. R em ove band anchor pin. (Figure 7A 1-37).
1. R em ove dial indicator, clam p assembly, J-24773 and
J-25022. (Figure 7A 1-32).
j. D o not rem ove J-25013-5 or J-25013-1.
2. Pump:
a. If necessary rem ove pump oil seal and discard.
(Figure 7A 1-33).
b. R em ove remaining pump to case bolts and washers;
discard washers.
FRONT GEAR PARTS
Rem oval
1. R em ove output shaft to turbine shaft front selective
washer. (Figure 7A 1-39).
NOTICE: This washer m ay be stuck to the end o f the
turbine shaft.
