14. Loosen com pressor from H old in g Fixture J-9396,
place Internal C ylinder and Shaft A ssem b ly Support B lock
J-21352 over oil pump end o f shaft and, w hile holding
Support B lock in position w ith one hand, lift com pressor
from H olding Fixture w ith other hand. Invert com pressor
(shaft will now be facing upward) and position on bench
w ith Internal A ssem b ly Support B lock resting on bench.
15. Lift Front Head and C om pressor Shell A ssem bly
up, leaving Internal Cylinder and Shaft A ssem b ly resting on
Internal A ssem b ly Support Block.

Internal C ylinder and Shaft A ssem bly. If Internal
A ssem bly w ill not slide out o f com pressor shell, tap on
Front H ead w ith a plastic hammer.
16. R est com pressor shell on its side and push Front
H ead assem bly through C om pressor Sheel,
being careful
not to damage sealing areas on inner side of front head.
D iscard O-ring. It m ay be necessary to tap on outside o f
front head, using a plastic ham m er, to overcom e friction o f
O-ring seal betw een front head and com pressor shell.
17. W ipe excess oil from sealing surfaces on front head
casting webs and exam ine sealing surface. If any surface
dam age is observed, the head should be replaced.
18. R em ove Front D ischarge V alve Plate assem bly and
Front Suction R eed Plate. Exam ine reeds and seats. Replace
necessary parts.
19. R em ove Suction Cross-O ver C over by prying with
screwdriver between cylinder casting and cover (Figure 1D-
34).
20. Exam ine Internal Cylinder and Shaft A ssem bly for
any obvious damage. I f Internal A ssem b ly has sustained
major damage, due to loss o f refrigerant or oil, it may be
necessary to use the Service Internal Cylinder and Shaft
A ssem bly rather than replace individual parts.
