use. The service package contains a nylon driven gear, two
governor w eight retaining pins and one governor gear
retainer split pin. R eplacem ent o f gear m ust be performed
with care in the follow ing manner:
1. D rive out governor gear retaining split pin using
small punch.
2. Support governor on 3 /1 6 in. (4.7m m ) plates
installed in exhaust slots o f governor sleeve, place in arbor
press, and w ith a long punch, press gear out o f sleeve.
3. Carefully clean governor sleeve o f chips that remain
from original gear installation.
4. Support governor on 3 /1 6 in. (4.7m m ) plates
installed in exhaust slots o f sleeve, position new gear in
sleeve and, w ith a suitable socket, press gear into sleeve until
nearly seated. Carefully rem ove any chips that m ay have
shaved o ff gear hub and press gear in until it b ottom s on
shoulder.
5. A new pin hole m ust be drilled through sleeve and
gear. Locate h ole position 90 degrees from existing hole,
center punch and then, w hile supporting governor in press,
drill new h ole through sleeve and gear using a standard ( 1 /8
in.) drill.
6. Install split retaining pin.
7. W ash governor assembly thoroughly to rem ove any
chips that m ay have collected.
R eassem bly
1. Install governor valve in bore o f sleeve, large land
end first.
2. Install governor w eights and springs, and thrust cap
on governor sleeve.
3. A lign pin holes in thrust cap, governor w eight
assem blies and governor sleeve, and install new pins. Crimp
both ends o f pins to prevent them from falling out.
4. Check governor w eight assem blies for free operation
on pins.
5. Check governor valve for free m ovem ent in governor
sleeve.

Transmission Internal Components
1. Install low and reverse clutch piston assem bly, be
sure to index piston lug into slot in case and seat piston fully.
2. Install piston return spring and retainer assebm Ly.
U sin g tool J-23327.
3. Install spring retainer and retaining ring. U sin g T ool
J-23327, com press return seat so spring retainer retaining
ring m ay be installed. Install output ring gear rear thrust
bearing in case.
4. Install output ring gear on output shaft.
5. Install reaction carrier to output ring gear bearing
into output ring gear support, inside lip down.
6. Install output shaft assembly into case.
7. Install reaction carrier assembly into output ring gear
and shaft assembly.
