This holds originals in place on the platen glass.

Place originals here when scanning books, thick
originals, thin originals, transparencies, etc. You
can use the platen glass to copy or scan
originals only if the optional Color Image
Reader-C1 and Platen Cover Type G are
attached, or if the optional Color Image
Reader-C1 and Feeder (DADF-K1) are attached.

Stack Bypass
Use the stack bypass to feed paper manually
and for loading irregular paper stock, such as
envelopes. (See "Making Prints Using the Stack
