The positions of operating mode “forming” are identical to that of the “punching”
operating mode. POP is the rest position above the metal sheet, and PUP is the
position in the metal sheet. The forming stroke is initiated by a rising edge at digital
input “IN 2 stroke start“. The punching axis moves to position PUP and signals with
digital output OUT3 that position PUP has been reached. The forming time is set
with R parameter R453 “Forming time“ and is started when the position window
R432 “PUP window forming mode“ has been reached. When the time has elapsed
the punching axis returns to rest position POP. Reaching of position POP is signaled
by digital output OUT2 “position POP reached”.

The only difference between the operating mode “bottom stroke” and the operating
mode “forming” is that the switching integrator is not active in position PUP. As a
consequence, the absolute accuracy and repeatability are smaller. This operating
mode is required for forming by moving to the lower positive stop to prevent an
integrator overflow that occurs in the “forming” operating mode. Also when forming
metal sheets, certain maximum velocities must not be exceeded in dependence upon
the metal sheet thickness. The downstroke velocity can be set by means of R
parameter 421. A value of 200 mm/s for R421 NRG is the optimum value for most of
the applications.
In position PUP a switching integrator can be activated. It serves for fine positioning
and for increasing the repeatability when forming.
The operating mode “forming with stop in PUP“ differs from the “forming” operating
mode in that in position PUP the punching axis will not automatically return to
position POP after the forming time has elapsed. This can be achieved by
maintaining the start signal IN 2 “high” as long as the axis is to stay in position PUP.
The forming time set in R453 is started only after the start signal IN2 was withdrawn.
The downstroke velocity can be set by means of R parameter 421. A value of
200 mm/s for R421 NRG is the optimum value for most of the applications.
