Authentication summary
The following table indicates how authentication is performed according to the
authentication mode specified and the type of connection to the SCPS. There are
five types of connections: Telnet to a serial port, Telnet to the admin port (23), serial
CLI, PPP dial-in and SSH.

For all connection types, authentication uses the SCPS
user database.
RADIUS
For Telnet to serial port, Telnet to admin port, PPP dial-in and
SSH connections, authentication uses the defi ned
RADIUS servers.
For serial CLI connections, authentication uses the SCPS
user database.
Local,RADIUS
For Telnet to serial port, Telnet to admin port, PPP dial-in
and SSH connections, authentication uses the SCPS user
database. If that fails, authentication goes to the defi ned
RADIUS servers.
For serial CLI connections, authentication uses the SCPS
user database.
RADIUS,Local
For Telnet to serial port, Telnet to admin port PPP dial-in
and SSH connections, authentication goes to the defi ned
RADIUS servers. If that fails, authentication uses the SCPS
user database.
For serial CLI connections, authentication uses the SCPS
user database.
None
For Telnet to serial port connections, no authentication
is performed.
For Telnet to admin port, serial CLI and PPP dial-in
connections, authentication uses the SCPS user database.
This authentication mode cannot be used for SSH connections.
To specify the authentication mode:

For RADIUS authentication, issue a Server RADIUS command.

You must specify the server’s IP address, the UDP port to be used and a
“secret” to be used. You must also specify a user-rights attribute value that
matches a value in the RADIUS server’s dictionary.
