APPENDIX D: Sending Direct Commands to the MPS-VIII
/L
Log (reserve a peripheral)
Use this command to reserve a peripheral (output port), so that only you
(your input port) will have access to it. The peripheral will be reserved until
you cancel the reservation by sending a Break signal. You can have only one
peripheral reserved at a time. Note that data flows in only one direction. To
establish bidirectional links, refer to the entries for the
/Y
and
/Z
commands.
Format
@@/L
@
The name or number of the port you want to reserve.
Examples
@@/L6@
Reserves Port 6 on the Multiport Spooler VIII for your
exclusive use.
@@/LLASER3@
Reserves the MPS-VIII port called “LASER3” for your
exclusive use.
@@/LPR*@
Reserves the first available MPS-VIII port whose name
starts with the two characters “PR” for your exclusive use.
NOTES
To use this command you must have Log permitted in the Multiport
Spooler VIII’s configuration (see the entry for the Log parameter in
Section 4.7.2
).
You cannot reserve a port to which you have restricted access (see
Section 4.8.1
).
The reserved port must be an output or bidirectional port.
All commands are disabled during the reservation. To end the
reservation, send a Break signal.
Reserving a port does not change other properties set for that port. If
you have activated headers (see the entry for
/H
), a header will be
generated at the beginning of each job. If you have activated form feeds
(see the entry for
/F
), a form feed will be generated whenever the port’s
timeout expires. If you have specified a number of copies (see the entry
for
/C
), that number of copies will be printed unless the buffer is full.
You can reserve any one of a group of peripherals by using wild-card
characters.
