Reset the EMF counter.

Attach the capillary column to the detector.

Install the column in the detector. See
“To Install a Capillary Column in the FID”

After the column is installed at both inlet and detector, establish a flow of carrier gas
and purge as recommended by the column manufacturer.

Check the FID leakage current. See
“To Check the FID Leakage Current”

Bakeout the detector. See

Restore the analytical method.
WARNING
Be careful! The oven, inlet, and/or detector may be hot enough to cause burns. If the oven,
inlet, or detector is hot, wear heat-resistant gloves to protect your hands.

Allow the oven, inlet, and detector to equilibrate at operating temperature, then
retighten the fittings.
