Make the follo wing measuremen ts as quic kly as p ossible since the signal
amplitude is sub ject to drift when y ou use deep AM at low lev els. If necessary ,
turning AM o and on again will reset the p o w er lev el.
19. With a 10 mV resolution, adjust the function generator un til y ou get an O VERMOD
message on the syn thesizer or un til the signal drops in to the noise lev el on the sp ectrum
analyzer. Decrease the function generator output just un til the O VERMOD message
disapp ears.
20. Record the RF signal lev el (or the noise lev el if the signal is in the noise).

22. Step the syn thesizer and sp ectrum analyzer CW and cen ter frequencies in 1 GHz steps.

23. Record the w orst case v alues from step 20 on the test record:
a. F or the 83630B , record w orst case v alues for frequencies < 20 GHz and for frequencies
20 GHz.
b. F or the 83640B /50B, record w orst case v alues for frequencies 20 GHz and for
frequencies > 20 GHz.
c. F or all other instrumen ts, record the w orst case v alue for all frequencies tested.
