Harmonic Measurement 26.5 to 40 GHz

22. Replace the HP/Agilent 11970K mixer with the HP/Agilent 11970A Mixer
(26.5 to 40 GHz).
23. On the sp ectrum analyzer, select the external mixer for the 26.5 to 40 GHz frequency
range and set the reference lev el oset to comp ensate for the mixer's con v ersion loss at 33
GHz.
24. On the syn thesizer, press:

25. On the sp ectrum analyzer, set:
Center Frequency: 33 GHz
Frequency Span: 1 MHz
Adjust the reference lev el to p osition the signal p eak at the top reference graticule. Use
this reference lev el for all harmonic measuremen ts.
26. On the sp ectrum analyzer, set:
Start Frequency: 26.5 GHz
Stop Frequency: 40 GHz ( 83640B/L)
38 GHz ( 83650B/L)
27. Manually sw eep the syn thesizer across the frequency range while c hec king the sp ectrum
analyzer display for harmonics and subharmonics. See T able 2-11 for the YO frequency
ranges that corresp ond to the RF output frequencies.
Since an external mixer is used, use the sp ectrum analyzer signal iden tify feature to v erify
that susp ected signals are in the 26.5 to 40 GHz frequency range. The signals most likely
to app ear are the fth and sixth YO harmonics.
28. Compare the amplitude of the harmonics and subharmonics to the sp ecications listed in
the test record. If an y harmonics or subharmonics are within 5 dB of the sp ecication,
make a more accurate measuremen t using the \Harmonic/Subharmonic V erication
Pro cedure > 20 GHz" that follo ws. Note the w orst case harmonic and the
w orst case subharmonic from 26.5 to 40 GHz.
29. F or the 83640B /L only: F rom step 28, determine the w orst case harmonic from 26.5 to
40 GHz and record this v alue on the test record.
F or the 83640B /L/ and 83650B /L only: F rom steps 20 and 28, determine the w orst case
subharmonic from > 20 and 40 GHz and record this v alue on the test record.

30. Replace the HP/Agilent 11970A mixer with the HP/Agilent 11970Q Mixer (33 to 50
GHz).
31. On the sp ectrum analyzer, select external mixer for the 33 to 50 GHz frequency range and
set the reference lev el oset to comp ensate for the con v ersion loss at 40 GHz.
32. On the syn thesizer, press:
