3. On the sp ectrum analyzer, set:
Frequency: Same frequency as the synthesizer
Span: 1 MHz
Reference Level: 15 dBm
Scale Log: 5 dB/Division
Bandwidth Resolution: 10 kHz
Video Bandwidth: 30 kHz
4. Measure the syn thesizer RF output amplitude with the sp ectrum analyzer marker.
5. Set the syn thesizer to the CW frequency noted in step 1.
6. Measure the signal lev el with the sp ectrum analyzer marker. Change the reference lev el as
necessary .
7. Calculate the harmonic/subharmonic lev el where the harmonic/subharmonic is less than
the carrier, as follo ws:
Harmonic/Subharmonic Amplitude (dBc) = [Syn thesizer RF output amplitude (dBm) 0
Harmonic/Subharmonic amplitude (dBm)]
F or example:
RF Output = +10 dBm
Harmonic = 060 dBm
Harmonic (dBc) = [RF Out 0 (Harmonic)]
= 0[10 0 ( 060 dBm)]
= 0[10 + 60 dBm]
= 070 dBc
