Application and Features
The Abbott VP 2000 Processor is used to automate and
standardize slide pretreatment and routine slide staining for
the laboratory. The unit is used with pre programmed
protocols provided with the VP 2000 Processor or can be
programmed to perform routine histology/cytology slide
staining or routine slide washing according to user
requirements. The purpose of the unit is to automate much of
the procedure and to produce more consistent results in
application of a stain. Several different staining processes are
used routinely, and the application of a particular stain
requires treating the specimen on the slide with a variety of
reagents for varying periods of time.
The Abbott VP 2000 Processor permits one to treat samples on
slides in various solutions in any selected sequence and for
selected periods of time. Once a clinical technician has
determined how the procedure is to be performed, the unit
can be programmed to conduct the procedure automatically at
the push of a button. The program can be stored in battery
powered memory for use at a later date.
In operation, a basket containing the microscope slides is
moved from one Staining Vessel to another in sequence. The
slides are lowered into a vessel for the period of time specified
in the program, and then raised and moved to another station.
The unit has five (5) special wells:
•
One for washing slides in water or some other solution
•
One for drying or preheating the slides
•
Three that can be heated above room ambient
Several special features enhance this process and make the unit
easier and safer to use. These are discussed briefly below; more
information can be found in the
