Fault Diagnostics
This subsection includes some general guidelines and hints on
how to isolate a service problem to a particular Field
Replaceable Module or Component.
General Techniques
Know the Unit
Determining the source of a malfunction almost always
requires an understanding of the architecture of the Abbott VP
2000 Processor. The Field Service Representative must read and
thoroughly understand the
Abbott VP 2000 User Guide
and
Abbott VP 2000 Processor Service Manual
. Suspect modules
can usually be deduced based on understanding the operation
as described in
Section 3, Technical Data
.
Look for Physical Damage and Proper Installation
Examine the machine for deformation, especially check the
Robotic Arm and the area around the Wash and Drying baths.
Check the Staining Vessels.
Check Cables and Connections
For most every type of failure the first thing to do is to check
the cable connections related to the symptom. For instance if
there appears to be a problem with the Robotic Head, check
the connections in the P1/J1 connectors. If after completing a
repair the machine appears to behave irrationally, the most
likely cause is an improper connection. If there is a problem in
the fluid area, check the relevant hose connections. Refer to
the Interface Diagrams for connector locations.
Check the Interlock Switches
This switch will prevent operation of the unit if stuck or
malfunctioning in the open position.
