Limitations
InstantDB databases are used primarily to manage a small number of
network entities. For larger networks, use an approved external database.

External Database on page 64 .
If you need help sizing your specific deployment, contact your 3Com
customer service representative.
Despite its flexibility, InstantDB has a specific limitation:

Neither database replication nor database redundancy is offered with
InstantDB. In some situations, you may need to compact the
embedded database connection options for the InstantDB database,
see
Compacting Embedded Databases on Server Startup in the
Enterprise Management Server Administration Guide .
Configuring Embedded Databases
By default, EMS is pre-configured to use the embedded InstantDB
database. All options are already bundled with the EMS software package
and no additional configuration is necessary. If you would like to view
default database connection options for the InstantDB database, review
the
Instant DB section of the server.properties file.
CAUTION: Before changing any default database connection option in
the “Instant DB” section of the server.properties file, contact your 3Com
customer service representative.
Maintenance Options
The only maintenance options available for InstantDB databases are
found from the EMS server command prompt. Use these commands to
compact existing databases and to export and import databases. For
more information about these commands, see
“Command Line Interface
Reference” on page 207 .
External Database For larger networks, 3Com allows you to use an external database from
an approved vendor.
