The crane operation is affected by wind speed, the higher away from the ground, the larger the

example, and the wind pressure and wind speed at different heights are shown in table 4-4.

3. Operation in strong breeze
The larger the lifting weight volume and the higher the lifting height, the bigger in
fl
uence the wind
to the complete crane stability. The following conditions should be given particular attention:
a. When lifting the steel plate of larger windward area objects, the weight could hit the arm frame
leading to damage or even the crane overturning accident.
b. When no load, long arm frame and large elevation, the crane suffers the head-on wind which
may make the arm frame to fall backward, so that the crane is overturning.
Before the operation, operators must obtain wind speed and wind force information from the
meteorological department, if the wind speed exceeds the prescribed value, one should stop the operation
to avoid the risk.
The instantaneousaneous wind speed of working height is once more than
fi
ve scale, namely the
wind speed is 14.1m/s, one must stop the operation, place the lifting heavy weight onto the ground, loose
hook, arm frame is fully retracted and place it on the crane arm bracket, and shut down the engine.
When the crane operation in strong breeze, operators must carefully observe and pay attention
to wind speed, equipment state, operation environment and other aspects. In addition, operators must
consider the very big differences of speed between the ground and high altitude as well as the ground
and street area. The wind speed in here is the instantaneous wind speed. If the crane arm head is
provided with an instantaneous wind speed instrument, the instantaneous wind speed can be measured
directly, and also determined according to the objective images.
