8.4.2
If water depth is greater than 2.5 feet, measure the current at 80% and 20%
down from the surface.
8.4.3
If water flow is either too low, too high or other conditions prevent
collecting a set flow measurements, document the river flow rate recorded
from the nearest river gauging station after returning the facility office.
8.4.4
Proceed to section 8.11 of this procedure.
8.5
Record the current readings in the field sampling logbook or the equivalent.
8.6
Upon returning to the milling facility, enter appropriate readings into the
computer to ascertain river flow rates. Enter results in field sampling logbook or
the equivalent.
8.7
Begin to obtain the sample by first determining position in the transit and using
the Model D74TM depth integrated sampler.
8.7.1
Select a nozzle from those provided in the kit and install a pre-cleaned 1
liter sample bottle in sampler and lower to pre-determined point in water
column. The lowering and raising of the sampler should be approximately
at the same rate.
8.7.2
Retrieve sampler and inspect to see if bottle has been overfilled. Evidence
of which, will be water flowing from the nozzle.
8.7.3
If sample bottle has been overfilled, empty and repeat sections 8.7.1 and
8.7.2.
8.7.4
Repeat until a good sample is taken.
8.7.5
Pour water sample into churnsplitter.
8.8
Repeat the sections 8.7.2 thru 8.7.5 until all transects have been sampled.
NOTE: If after the above procedure is completed, there is not sufficient volume
of sample to fill all bottles in the sample suite. Resample the entire transect as
many times as necessary to obtain sufficient volume. All transect points must be
sampled if one of them is taken.
8.9
Fill individual bottles for analysis from the churnsplitter.
8.10
Label bottles using waterproof marker with:
8.10.1
Location.
8.10.2
Date.
8.10.3
Sample submittal number.
