Operation and Reference

SD Card Slot/USB Port

Below the four control keys is a small door fastened by two thumbscrews. Unscrew
the attaching screws and open the door to reveal the SD Card slot and the USB port
(Figure 2.5).

The SD card slot holds the SD memory card that serves as the receiver's data storage
memory. All data recorded by the GPS receiver is stored on the SD card. The USB
port is one of the external ports available for connecting to a computer.

The USB port is a type-B connector. With the USB connection, the Z-Max can
establish a bi-directional link to a host computer for transferring data from the SD
memory card, or data being streamed in real-time from the Z-Max. Utilizing the USB
port requires a USB interface cable. Be aware that it shares the internal connection
with the Serial A port located on the rear panel (see below), so the USB port and the
Serial A port can not be in use at the same time.

CAUTION

Turning the unit "OFF" while the receiver is in the reset mode can have adverse
effects. If this occurs, repeat the Reset process immediately.

The reset process will reformat the SD card, deleting all information recorded
previously on the card. During constant use, reformatting the SD card using the
initialization process is recommended every two weeks.
