Operation

This chapter provides a more detailed description of how to operate the front panel
user interface, graphically displays the front panel menus and submenus, and defines
each parameter available via the front panel. This chapter also provides information
on common receiver operations such as data recording, downloading the data, and
the front panel warning messages.

Front Panel User Interface

General

The Front Panel User Interface allows you to monitor and control many receiver
parameters and functions. The display is an 8-character scrolling alphanumeric LED
screen and control keys that allow you set receiver parameters, configure the receiver
to perform different types of surveys and to monitor system status during operation.
The front panel user interface is also used to show equipment status messages and
warnings that are automatically generated by the Z-Max.

All functions in the Front Panel User Interface are organized in a menu tree (Figure
4.2 on page

). The menus are displayed in the Front Panel User Interface and

controlled by the 4 control keys (Figure 4.1). The functions in the menu tree are
covered in great detail in the Menus section, page

. Note that although the Z-Max is

powered on, the display may not be active. If no keys are pressed for more than 20
seconds, the front panel user interface will shut down to save power. Press any
control key to restore the display to its original state before it shut down.
