Z-Max Surveying System Operation and Applications Manual

Z-Max System - Tripod/Survey Pole/Backpack

The Z-Max System for post-processed surveying is modular, virtually removing cables
from the configuration. It also has a female threaded receptacle built into the bottom
of the receiver to support secure mounting to standard survey mounting devices
including; tribrach and range pole. This design greatly simplifies equipment setup for
post-processed surveys.

Since the GPS Antenna must be centered and leveled over the survey point to be
able to achieve centimeter-level accuracy, it is important to understand how to
connect the Z-Max to the survey mounting device. We will review the three basic
types of setups and the equipment configuration for each.

Static

- The Static setup (Figure 3.5) is used with all receivers in a static survey,

and the base receiver in a kinematic survey. In the Static setup, the receiver
system (with Antenna and Power Modules attached) is mounted on the tripod that
is set up over the point. In order to accurately measure the antenna height, the HI
Measurement Plate is also attached between tripod and the receiver system.
The bottom of the Z-Max GPS Receiver Module includes a 5/8” threaded
receptacle that fits to a standard tribrach adapter. The HI Measurement plate has
a hole in the center of the plate. Insert the adapter into the hole of the
Measurement Plate, and screw the adapter/plate combination into the Z-Max
