Z-Max Surveying System Operation and Applications Manual

Thales U-Link and PDL Radio

The radios have several parameters that must be configured. While most of the
parameters apply to both the Thales and the PDL radios, there are some differ-
ences that are noted below.
Perform the following steps:
1. Set the radio port.

This is the serial port to which the radio is connected. If you followed the
recommendations in the previous chapter, the radio will be connected to port B.

2. Set the port baud rate.

The baud rate is the port speed of the serial port to which the radio is
connected. The default is 19200 and generally should not be changed.

3. Load radio parameters into the receiver.

This is done to ensure that any other active data links are fully turned off and
the receiver is ready to use the radio.

4. Set the Sensitivity to LOW. (PDL radio only)
5. Set the Link Speed. (PDL radio only)

The default is 9600.

6. Set the channel number for transmission frequency.

Channel numbers range from 00 to 15 and each channel number is linked to
a particular radio frequency set at the factory.

7. Send user-selected radio parameters to the receiver.

Program the user-selected radio parameters (port, channel, sensitivity, link
speed) to the receiver. Any errors in sending the parameters will trigger a
message that will be displayed on the front panel display.

GSM Modem

The GSM modem has several set up parameters that must be configured before
the modem can be used. If the set up parameters are saved to receiver memory,
they will not have to be set the next time the modem is used.
Set up the GSM modem by performing the following steps:
1. Set the GSM band. (BAND).

The band parameter sets the operable frequency band. In general, set this
parameter to 1900 in North America or 900/1800 elsewhere, but verify this
with your GSM service provider.

2. Set the PIN number.

This number is available from your GSM service provider.
