Accessing Internal Components
The first step to all of the service procedures in the cleaning or replacement sections is opening the
QMS chassis. This involves removing the aesthetic covers. Have the QMS turned off, cooled, and
vented to atmospheric pressure before beginning. After that, various components can be worked on as
described in later sections. All the sections below describe how to disassemble the system. Unless
mentioned otherwise, the steps are reversed for reassembly.

Unplug the line cord from the power entry module before performing this procedure

Procedure
1. Remove the two socket head screws that attach the handle.
2. Remove the screws around the perimeter of the painted metal cover: 4 on back, and 6 on
bottom. Slide the cover back about 1/4 inch. Pull the bottom edges of the cover away from
the chassis until the hooks on the front edge clear the chassis. Lift the entire cover off.
3. Remove the 7 screws around the perimeter of the plastic bezel (one is on the bottom) and pull
the bezel off the front a small distance and stop. Remove the ribbon cable from the front display
panel (note the Pin 1 marking). Lay the bezel down in front of the system. The power switch
wires do not need to be removed.
4. At this point, lay the instrument on its left side.
5. The right side of the chassis is covered with a flat panel. Remove the screws around the
perimeter: 3 each on top, right, and bottom and 2 on the front. The second screw on the front
is less obvious. Lift up the lexan overlay to expose an access hole. The side cover can now be
removed. With this cover removed, the chassis is far less rigid.
