Error Reporting Commands

EC?

Description

:  RS232_ERR Byte Query

Echo:

 RS232_ERR Byte.

Query the value of the RS232_ERR byte. The value of the RS232_ERR byte is sent to the computer in
ASCII format and with a <LF><CR> terminator.  RS232_ERR  and bit 0 of STATUS are then cleared to
provide a clean error reporting slate.

Important:

 See “Troubleshooting the RGA Communications” in the RGA Programming chapter for more

details on the use of this query.

Parameters:

 This command is a query, and can only have one parameter format:

EC?

Error checking:

The only acceptable parameter is a question mark.
The absence of a parameter (i. e. EC) is treated as a bad-parameter error.

ED?

Description

:  DET_ERR Byte Query

Echo:

 DET_ERR Byte.

Query the value of DET_ERR and update its value after running a fresh check on the Electrometer (Bit5
of STATUS and the DET_ERR byte are updated based on the tests results). The DET_ERR byte value
is returned to the computer in ASCII format and with a <LF><CR> terminator. No errors are present as
long as the byte value is zero.

Consult the Error Byte Definitions section in this chapter for detatils on the different error bytes of the
RGA.

Consult the RGA Troubleshooting chapter of this manual for possible causes and solutions to any problems
reported.

Always try the query a second time before declaring a hardware problem.

Important

: The electrometer is not affected by this test, and the detector is restored to its pre-test

configuration once the command excecution is over.
