3.1.5 Setup “S/W RAID” Menu Functions
Function: Unit rescan fig 3.1.5a
This function rescans your system for new units
Function: Create new S/W [ software based ] RAID unit fig 3.1.5a
Warning: The Galaxy NAS LX5 has the capabilities to use software RAID
configurations but these are typically not used since hardware RAID has been preconfigured for you.
Since the Galaxy® NAS LX5 does have S/W RAID as an option, it will be discussed from a function
only standpoint. We strongly advise that S/W RAID not be used.
Once Hardware or Software RAID storage volumes are created, reconfiguration of
these can not be done without the loss of all data in those volumes.
This function allows you to create software RAIDs from free (not used) disk units [drives]. If you want to
create RAIDs from used units, you need first to delete content of units using console tools. Be aware
this would ERASE all data from units.
To create a RAID select units, then from ListBox select what type of RAID it will be, then select desired
Chunk size. After setting all demanded parameters press Create button.
Allow to create degraded mode
:
Allows you to create a RAID1 with one drive, RAID5 with two drive
or RAID6 with three drives, even if minimal number of units is not meet.
Note: Chunk size - is a minimal portion of data that is written at a time.
Available RAIDS: RAID 0,1,5 + 6
