About MOD. PAL
Most recent PAL display sets automatically detect whether
the format of input signals is PAL or NTSC, and adjust the
vertical sync accordingly. When using such display sets,
images will be projected properly without vertical com-
pression.
Depending on the display, images may appear vertically
compressed, and black bands may appear at the top and
bottom. This phenomenon is caused when NTSC format
signals are converted to PAL format (MOD. PAL), and is
not a malfunction.
If your PAL display set is not equipped with a V-hold func-
tion, it may not be possible to play NTSC format discs
(attempting to play NTSC format discs will result in verti-
cal rolling of the image).
If vertical flutter appears when playing back discs, despite
the fact that the display set has a V-hold function, adjust
the display’s vertical sync control until the image flutter is
suppressed.
