9-26  Upgrading Your Workstation

Installation

Take the following steps to install a DIMM:

 

1. 

See the section "Preparing for Installation and Removal" described earlier to prepare.

 

2. 

Remove the base cover and the front mask.

 

3. 

Remove the device bays #1 and #2 according to the Steps 4 through 8 of installation
procedure of 3.5-inch hard disk drive.

 

4. 

Locate the slots you are going to install DIMMs.

Install two DIMMs in pair, slots 1 and 3, or slots 2 and 4.

 

5. 

Remove the PCI board from PCI board slot #1. See "PCI Board" described earlier.

The PCI board installed in the slot that accepts PCI Express interface (PCI #1) is locked.
Remove the board from this slot while pulling the cable tie mounted on the slot eject
lever.

IMPORTANT: 

If the graphics accelerator has a width equivalent to

width of two PCI slots, remove the board while pushing the lock of PCI
Express slot from the other side.
