8-8 Troubleshooting
The memory capacity shown on POST, BIOS SETUP menu, and OS's system information is not
identical to the actual physical memory capacity:
→
The memory capacity shown on the screen may be smaller than the actual physical
memory capacity, depending on the configuration of PCI board or others. This is
not an error. However, if the memory capacity does not change even after the
addition of DIMM or the indication is smaller than the usual capacity, the DIMM
may be faulty.
* The maximum memory capacity that OS supports and available memory capacity
– See the table below for the maximum memory capacity that OS supports.
– The available memory capacity may be smaller than the installed memory capacity
depending on specification of the chipset that uses the memory as PCI resource area.
The capacity may vary depending on the type and the number of PCI boards
installed. See the table below.
OS in use
Installed memory capacity and available memory
capacity (4GB max.)
The maximum
memory capacity that
OS supports: 4GB
Installed memory capacity:
Up to 2.5GB
Available memory capacity:
Same as installed
memory
Installed memory capacity:
2.5GB to 4GB
Available memory capacity:
About 2.5GB to 3.3GB
– You can check the available memory capacity by viewing [Advanced] - [Memory
Configuration] - [Available under 4GB] in BIOS SETUP.
POST fails to complete:
Is the DIMM board installed?
→
At least one DIMM boards are required for operation.
Is the memory size large?
→
The memory check may take a few seconds if the memory size is large. Wait for a
while.
Did you perform any keyboard or mouse operation immediately after you started the
workstation?
→
If you perform any keyboard or mouse operation immediately after start-up, POST
may accidentally detect a keyboard controller error and stops proceeding. In such
a case, restart the workstation once again. Do not perform any keyboard or mouse
operation until the BIOS start-up message appears when you restart the
workstation.
Does the workstation have contains appropriate memory boards or PCI devices?
→
Operation of the workstation with unauthorized devices is not guaranteed.
