Coupling/decoupling a trailer
!
The eyelet on the ball coupling is intended
solely for the attachment of a trailer break-
away cable. Do not attach towing cables, tow-
ing bars or similar items to the eyelet. The
eyelet is not designed for such loads and may
become detached.
Trailers with a 7-pin connector can be connec-
ted to the vehicle using:

an adapter plug

or an adapter cable
Coupling up a trailer

Remove the protective cap from the ball cou-
pling and store it in a safe place.

Position the trailer on a level surface behind
the vehicle and couple up.
X
Open the socket cover.
X
Insert the connector with lug

Turn bayonet connection

stop.

Let the cover engage.
X
Secure the cable to the trailer using cable ties
(only when using an adapter cable).
X
Ensure the cable has freedom of movement
when cornering.

Check the lighting system of the trailer. Push
the combination switch up and down and
check whether the corresponding turn signal
indicator on the trailer is flashing.
Decoupling a trailer

WARNING
If you uncouple a trailer with an engaged over-
run brake, you could trap your hand between
the vehicle and the trailer drawbar. This poses
a risk of injury.
Do not uncouple a trailer with an engaged
overrun brake.

Do not disconnect a trailer with an engaged
overrun brake. Otherwise, your vehicle could
be damaged by the rebounding of the overrun
brake.

Secure the trailer against rolling away.
X
Disconnect the electrical connection
between the vehicle and the trailer.
X
Uncouple the trailer.
X
Place the protective cap on the ball coupling.
