4.11.7 Setpoint
Ramp
The Model 370 can be configured to ramp the control setpoint from its present value to a new value. The ramp can
produce a smooth, linear transition in temperature rather than the step response normally associated with closed loop PID
control. For the feature to have a beneficial effect, the ramp rate must be slower than the time response of the load. The
ramp feature will only operate if the setpoint units are Kelvin.
The ramp rate is set in Kelvin per minute with a range of 0.001 to 10 and a resolution of 0.001. Once the feature is turned
on and a rate is set, ramp action is initiated by a setpoint change. When a new setpoint value is entered the instrument
changes the setpoint from the old value to the new value in small increments that correspond to the ramp rate. The ramp
rate is entered as a positive number but it can be used for ramping up and down in temperature.
When the ramp feature is turned on the Ramp annunciator will be shown on the top line of the display. During an active
ramp the annunciator will blink. When the instrument is waiting for a setpoint change the annunciator is steady. If the
setpoint units are set to ohms or the heater range is turned off, the ramp annunciator will remain steady and the setpoint
will go directly to the new value.
