4.11.2.9 Heater
Polarity
When the heater output is used in a traditional manner, to drive a resistive load, the heater output needs to be unipolar
since reversing the current will still heat the load. There may be some rare circumstances when the heater output is not
connected to a resistive load and bipolar control is desired. The heater output can be set to control the current to plus and
minus the full-scale range by setting the heater polarity to bipolar mode. For the majority of applications and any
application where the heater output is connected to a resistive load, the unipolar mode should be chosen.
The next control setup screen appears as a prompt for the heater polarity.

4.11.3 Changing
Setpoint
The control setpoint indicates the desired load temperature. It can be expressed in either ohms or Kelvin. If there is not a
temperature response curve assigned to the control channel, the setpoint units will default to ohms. To change setpoint
units refer, to Paragraph 4.11.2.3.
The instrument allows a large setpoint range to accommodate a variety of sensor types and applications. In resistance the
setpoint can range from micro ohms to mega ohms. In temperature the setpoint can range from milliKelvin to over 1000
Kelvin. A setpoint limit in Kelvin can be entered in the temperature response curve. This limit is in force for the control
channel only and only when operating with setpoint units of Kelvin.
Setpoint resolution matches the 6-digit display resolution of the measurement. Maximum and minimum setpoint range
and resolution are shown below.
Maximum Resistance:

Minimum Resistance:

To change the control setpoint press the
Setpoint
key. The setpoint value on the normal display will be highlighted to
prompt for the numeric part of the new setpoint value.
