Section 4 Theory of Operation

ATLAS Analogue

4.4.4

Backplane Interface Board

The Backplane Interface Board is accessed from the rear of the transmitter and is
located just above the PA Module compartment. Its function is to distribute RF, low
voltage and control signals to the PA modules.

4.4.4.1

RF Splitter

The output of the RFU drives the 8-way hybrid splitter on the Backplane Interface
Board. This type of splitter is broadband, covering the entire UHF range.

4.4.4.2

Control Distribution

The System Control Bus is also distributed to all of the PA Modules from here. The
control bus includes both dedicated parallel control lines and the CAN (Controller Area
Network) bus.

4.4.4.3

Low Voltage Power Supply Distribution

The LVPS is distributed to all of the PA Modules and includes:

+7.5Vdc

•

+15Vdc

•

-15Vdc

4.4.4.4

Backporch TV Sync

The Backporch TV Sync signal is generated by the TVS-D660 Exciter and routed to all
PA modules via the Backplane Interface board for AGC purposes.
