Installation
Before beginning the startup procedure, the work site should be prepared for tank degassing
following the operator’s standards and procedures. This includes (but is not limited to):
• Draining and bottoming the tank of all good fuel and waste fuel/sludge
• Certified electrical isolation.
• Electrical continuity (where appropriate).
• Assessing and ensuring the safe distribution and dispersal areas of VOC’s (considering
proximity of civilian population).
• Making sure warning displays are adequate.
• Verifying NanoVapor™ inlet and outlet connections are properly installed before startup.
• Making sure all required isolation certificates and permits have been issued and are valid.
Getting started
1. Conduct a pre-start meeting, and communicate the work plan, which includes:
• A safety briefing.
• A review of work practices.
• A review and check of all PPE, which includes:
• Hard hat with strap.
• Safety glasses.
• High visibility vest or overalls.
• Safety boots.
• Hearing protection.
• Gloves for hand protection.
2. Perform a VFITSL inspection and analysis:
• Vents – A balance of entry and exit flow and velocity, install as many Vents as possible
for increased efficiency of the NanoVapor™ application. Use of the Large or Mini
Rocket system has increase efficiency. The NL use the Large Rocket as standard for the
complete fuel system degassing.
• Fuel – Excess Fuel remaining in the tank where it has not been lifted efficiently leads
to longer degas times. Excess fuel can be moved by the NanoVapor™ flow causing LEL
to be produced and extended degas times as the NanoVapor™ molecule has a greater
surface area to cover.
• Isolation – The tank must be isolated from external sources of vapour and product,
unless the whole of the UPSS is being degassed using the Rocket method. If pipes such
as offset fill, dispenser pipes and shared vents are not isolated then vapor migration
will occur into the tank being degassed. In cases where there are shared vent manifolds
then LEL will be blown into the neighbouring tanks via this vent manifold.
