Preparing for installation

Pre-start meeting

Before a NV-ST-1000 TankSafe™ Delivery Unit is implemented, a meeting should be held with all
personnel involved to ensure the work will be performed safely. The meeting should include a
safety briefing and a review of work practices including identified hazards and controls along with
a review of any required documentation, VFITSL should also be discussed and agreed.

•  V - Vents (to include inlet tube and adapter)
•  F - Fuel removal (all if possible)
•  I - Isolation
•  T - Tank Top (LEL Measurement)
•  S - Sludge
•  L - Level

Necessary PPE should be reviewed as well. For NV-ST-1000 TankSafe™ Delivery Unit operation,
this includes:

•  Hard hat
•  Safety glasses
•  Ear protection
•  Safety shoes / boots
•  Anti-static coveralls
•  High visibility vest
•  Hearing protection
•  Gloves

Checking the manway LEL

Before degassing the tank, have a qualified person with a calibrated meter measure the %LEL in
the manway. If the manway is not <1% LEL, it must be ventilated before work begins. The
NV-ST-1000 TankSafe™ Delivery Unit can be used for this ventilation by lowering 200 mm ducting
connected to the unit inlet into the manway as shown below. Note that the TankSafe™ product
supply is not connected to the unit in this setup. Should the LEL inside the manway exceeds the
required limit, continued venting should be used. The outlet of the duct from the unit should be
at the same height or greater than the installed vents on the site (min 3.2m above grade).
