2.8  Emergency modes

This section describes how the ventilator operates under several unexpected conditions, 
including occlusion cycling mode, a ventilator inoperative (VENT INOP) condition, and when 
the ventilator opens the safety valve.

2.8.1  Occlusion cycling mode

If the ventilator detects an occlusion in the ventilator breathing circuit or a continuous high 
inspiratory pressure condition (due to an exhalation valve that does not open or an occluded 
flow sensor), it opens the safety and exhalation valves to vent excess pressure, then shuts 
them and begins 

occlusion cycling mode

. In occlusion cycling mode the ventilator uses current 

settings except for the following, if applicable (Table 2-3):
