Spreader Clamp Back Air Pressure
Adjustment
If flatwork is being damaged because the
spreader clamps are gripping too tightly, or if the
clamps are dropping flatwork prematurely, the
problem can be addressed by adjusting the back
pressure on the spreader clamp air cylinders.
In addition, adjustments may be required based
on the weight of flatwork being processed.
Required Tools

Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected.
Turn power OFF at the main disconnect
switch.
Turn ON the compressed air supply to
the unit.
Locate the main solenoid air valve on the
inside wall of the left endframe (Figure
7-68) and locate the valve’s override
screw.
Use a small screwdriver to push in the
lockout screw and turn it 1/4 turn clock-
wise to lock it in the “in” position. This
lets compressed air into the system, al-
lowing adjustment with air pressure in
the system.

Locate the override screw on the spreader
clamps back pressure solenoid air valve
(Figure 7-69, A).
With a small screwdriver, push the screw
in and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock
it down. This lets compressed into the
regulator.
Locate the air adjustment knob on the
top of the regulator (Figure 7-67, B).
Pull up on the knob to release the locking
mechanism.
NOTE: Factory default is 50 psi
(345 kPa). Pressures below 45 psi
(310 kPa) or above 55 psi (325
kPa) are not recommended.
Turn the knob to adjust pressure. Decrease
pressure slightly if the clamp grip is too
loose; increase pressure slightly if the
clamp grip is too tight.Work in small incre-
ments (about 1-2 PSI or 7-14 kPa).
Press down on the knob to lock in the
adjustment.
Reverse Steps 3 and 6 to unlock the sole-
noid air valves.
Start the unit and process several pieces
of flatwork to make sure the adjustment is
working correctly.
