Doffer Roll

At each end of the doffer roll, push the
foam tubing in a few inches
Apply contact adhesive to cover about 2”
(50 mm) of each end of the roll (Figure
7-42).
Push the foam tubing back into place and
wipe off any excess adhesive that squeezes
out at the ends.
Apply contact adhesive evenly along the
full length of the foam. Use a brush or
putty knife to smooth the adhesive over
the entire surface.
Secure the cover material at one end of
the roll with masking tape to help start the
winding process.
NOTE:
The drive roll cover
material should be spiral-wound
at about a 45˚ angle.
Spiral wind the cover around the length of
the roll (Figure 7-43, A)
Trim each end of the cover so that it is
even with the ends of the roll.
Secure the ends of the cover material to
each end of the drive roll with several turns
of filament tape (Figure 7-43/-, B).
Allow the adhesive to set for 30 minutes
to 1 hour before proceeding.
Carry the doffer roll back to the machine.
Insert the one end of the roll onto its
bracket pin.
On the other end, replace the bracket re-
moved in Step 4.
Position the roll bracket and replace the
bolt removed in Step 3.
