Setting the spray pump needle valve.
Normally the needle valve in the spray pump is operated in the open
position with an open center hydraulic system and adjusted in or out to
achieve the desired deadhead spray pump pressure. Because we have
a 3 port flow control valve in the control circuit which is simultaneously
splitting the oil flow between spray pump and hydraulic block on the
sprayer, the needle valve in the spray pump needs to be screwed all the
way in and therefore is fully closed. This will ensure that we manage
the oil flow with the least amount of heat generation and still maintain a
consistent pump speed.
Please note: A consistent spray pump speed also depends on how capable the tractor is at delivering steady oil
flow and pressure.
Setting the spray pump flow control valve.
1. Open all pump supply lines ensuring that there is water at the pump inlet.
2. Close the agitation valve, throttling valve and the boom electric ball valves.
3. Set the new flow control valve to “0”.
4. Start the tractor and activate the hydraulic circuit.
5. Turn ‘ON’ the electrical switch that controls the selector valve.
6. Throttle up the tractor to operating speed so that the oil supply is at its maximum.
7. Adjust the flow control valve to achieve desired dead head pressure on the sprayer pump.
8. Open the agitation valve and allow some water to circulate back into the tank.
9. Close agitation valve.
10. Check for desired dead head pressure. Adjust flow control valve accordingly.
Note: Refer to Section 7.2, Troubleshooting Tractors with Open Centre Hydraulics
if any problems arise.
