3.5 CONNECTING TO THE TRACTOR (FIELD OPERATION)
1. Lock the tractor drawbar into the center position.
2. Only tow the sprayer on a drawbar with a clevis hitch.
NOTE: Be certain that the tractor drawbar is equipped
with a hammer strap before connecting to the sprayer.
3. Use the jack supplied to adjust the sprayer hitch to
the height of the tractor hitch. Connect to a clevis
hitch with a draw pin, and lock in place with a
hairpin. Retract the jack and move it into the storage
position. Make sure that the chain is wrapped around
the jack handle.
4. A safety chain capable of a force of 90 kN (20,200 lb.) is required between the implement and the tractor as
shown in Fig 3.9. Connect the safety chain. Attach the chain to allow for proper movement between the
sprayer and the tractor.
NOTE: Install a spacer onto the draw pin as shown, to limit the vertical movement of the hitch during towing.
5. To ensure proper sprayer operation, check that the sprayer cart is pulling level. Adjust the hitch if required.
See Section 6.1.
6. Connect the wiring harnesses from the sprayer frame to the control units installed in the tractor. Connect the
pressure line if you are using the TeeJet 744 control unit. Also connects the lines to the sprayer pump.
7. Connect the hydraulic valve block lines to the tractor hydraulic lever coupler. These lines provide oil to the
valve block that controls all of the hydraulic functions of the suspended boom .
NOTE: All of the hydraulic functions on the suspended boom sprayer are controlled through one hydraulic circuit,
except the sprayer pump, which is connected separately. Maximum flow to the hydraulic block should be 7
gpm (32 Lpm) therefore flow to this circuit may be reduced if your tractor has a flow control. More flow can
be sent, but it is not desirable. On open center tractors, be sure the Open Centre Solenoid Valve kit is
installed. See section 3.5.2. On load sensing tractors, the Load Sensing Solenoid Valve kit might have to be
installed. See section 3.5.3.
1. Connect the hydraulic pump lines to the tractor.
Reverse couplers if the pump does not work when applying pressure to the hydraulic lines.
2. Adjust the pump speed as shown in section 4.2.
IMPORTANT
: Never run a centrifugal pump dry for more than a few seconds. Fluid is required at all times to
cool the pump, preventing pump seal damage. If the pump will not prime or runs out of fluid, shut it off immediately.
