7 TROUBLESHOOTING
7.1 HYDRAULICALLY DRIVEN CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS
IMPORTANT:
Never run a centrifugal pump dry for more than a few seconds. Fluid is required at all times to
cool the pump, preventing pump seal damage. If the pump will not prime or runs out of fluid, shut off promptly.
Possible Causes
Improper valve positioning.
Leaks in suction line or line fittings.
Kinked or collapsed suction hose.
Obstruction of suction or discharge
line.
Faulty pressure gauge.
Worn nozzle tips leading to increased
flow and reducing pressure.
Air lock in volute casing.
Pump running too slowly.
Impeller stuck or clogged.
Flow Limiter in the pump’s hydraulic
pressure line has been activated.
Problem
Loss of pressure.
Possible Solutions
Tank shutoff, pump shutoff, agitation
and throttling valves must be open.
All other valves must be closed.
These are hard to locate because air
is drawn inward. The leaks typically
occur at joints, so check joints and
tighten clamps.
Ensure that the suction hose is clear.
Rotten lining in an old hose may pull
loose and clog passage. If an old hose
is suspected, remove and replace as
needed.
Replace pressure gauge.
Check nozzle flow and sprayer
calibration. Replace nozzles as
required. See Section 4.6.
Open drain valve at top of volute
casing to bleed off air.
Reset hydraulic oil bypass to reset
pressure.
Remove volute casing and check for
foreign object in the impeller. Rotate
impeller to check that it moves freely.
Reduce the amount of flow to the
pump. See section 4.2.
