Section I: Hardware Overview
SFP+ Slots
The controller card has four SFP+ slots on the front panel. The slots are
numbered 1 to 4 and may be used with Allied Telesis AT-SP10TW direct
connect cables or SFP+ 10G transceivers for the following functions.
Add high speed uplink ports for the Ethernet line cards in the
chassis.
Build a trunk between two chassis to form a stack with the
VCStack Plus feature. For more on stacking, refer to Chapter 15,
“VCStack Plus Overview” on page 301.
For a list of supported transceivers, refer to the product data sheet or the
Allied Telesis web site.
Here are the SFP+ slot guidelines:
The SFP+ slots on the controller card may be used as uplink ports
for the Ethernet line cards when the VCStack Plus feature is
disabled on the switch.
The SFP+ slots on the controller card must be used as trunk slots
when the VCStack Plus feature is enabled.
To use the slots to build a stack with the VCStack Plus feature, you
must use direct connect twinax cables or SFP+ transceivers from
Allied Telesis. The two chassis will not form the stack if you use
cables or transceivers from other network equipment
manufacturers.
Note
To build a stack with the previous 5.4.4 release of the AlliedWare
Plus Operating System, you have to use AT-Stack/OP transceivers.
That restriction no longer applies with release 5.4.5. You may use
direct connect twinax cables or SFP+ transceivers so long as they
are from AlliedWare Plus and have been approved for the SFP+
slots.
When a chassis has two controller cards, the SFP+ ports on both
cards are active. Consequently, a chassis with two controller cards
has eight active SFP+ slots.
You may use the slots in any order when you are using them as
uplink ports for the Ethernet line cards.
The trunk cabling configurations for the SFP+ slots and the
VCStack Plus feature are given in “Cabling Configurations for the
Trunk” on page 305.
Each SFP+ slot has one LED. The states of the LED are described in
