SwitchBlade x8106 Chassis Switch and AT-SBx81CFC960 Card Installation Guide
Section III: Building a Stack with VCStack Plus

Stack Trunk
The two chassis of a stack are connected with a stack trunk. A trunk has
the following components:
The SFP+ slots on the front panels of the AT-SBx81CFC960
Controller Fabric Cards in the switches.
Allied Telesis direct connect cables or 10G SFP+ fiber optic
transceivers.
There are two factors to consider in determining the type and number of
transceivers needed to build the trunk of a stack. The first factor is the
distance between the two switches. The units can be close together, such
as in the same equipment rack, or kilometers apart. If the switches are in
the same wiring closet, you may use direct connect cables, which come in
three lengths and are listed in Table 32.
If the switches are further apart, you may build the trunk with short or long
distance Allied Telesis 10G SFP+ fiber optic transceivers. A list of
supported transceivers is available from the product data sheet or the
Allied Telesis web site.
The second factor to consider is the number of direct connect cables or
fiber optic transceivers needed for the trunk. This is determined by the
number of AT-SBx81CFC960 Controller Fabric Cards in the switches and
the number of SFP+ slots, which is four slots per card. A trunk between
two switches, each of which has only one controller card, will have four
links. Thus, you will need either four direct connect cables or eight 10G
SFP+ transceivers. A trunk between two switches, each of which has two
controller cards, will have eight links. For this you will need either eight
direct connect cables or sixteen 10G SFP+ transceivers.
Please review the following information:
You must build the trunk with Allied Telesis SFP+ transceivers or
direct connect cables. The switches will not form the stack with
transceivers or cables from other network equipment
manufacturers.
The stack uses all the links in the trunk to actively forward traffic
